Man accused of manslaughter in baby's death goes to trial 2011

A man charged in the death of his baby daughter in Halifax did not enter a plea during an appearance Thursday in Nova Scotia Supreme Court.But it was confirmed that the manslaughter trial of Ashiqur Rahman, 24, will go ahead in February.His seven-week-old daughter, Aurora Breakthrough, died on July 27, 2009, four days after being rushed to hospital.The girl's mother, Jane Elizabeth Gomes, was also charged with manslaughter but pleaded guilty in April to the less serious charge of failing to provide the necessities of life.

She was given a conditional discharge in May and was placed on probation for six months, with a condition that she get counselling. Gomes spent nine months in custody before pleading guilty.
