What started as a day of adventure for five young boys from Triton, soon turned into a rescue mission.
As twin brothers Clarke Roberts and Christian Roberts, along with three friends Logan Roberts, Caleb Roberts and Jaden Elliott, were out exploring behind the municipal building in Triton on Nov. 7, they discovered four furry kittens.
However, only three were alive.
"We heard some noises, and one came up right in front of my friend and all he heard was 'moew.' The poor things were soaked and cold," said nine-year-old Christian. "I just wanted to take them home."
The kittens, Spot, Oreo and Snowball were nearly frozen, but the boys managed to gather them and bring them to a camp.
But after the boys informed Rockey Roberts, father of Clarke and Christian, of their discovery, Mr. Roberts told the boys to bring the kittens into the house.
"I put on my boots right away and went out there. They might have been four to six weeks old - they were really small," said Mr. Roberts. "They were very wet and cold, so I told the boys 'you cant keep them here, you're going to have to bring them into the house."'
Once they were brought into the house, Mr. Roberts said they dried the wet kittens off.
After Oreo, Spot and Snowball adjusted, Mr. Roberts said he started posting videos and pictures of the kittens on Facebook, in hopes of finding homes for them.
In less than 24 hours, all the kittens were adopted. One of them went to a family in Robert's Arm, while the other two found families in Triton.
With the rescue mission completed, Mr. Roberts said the boys did the right thing.
"I'm pretty proud of the boys involved, they done a good job," he said.
