On Remembrance Day, family, friends and veterans from surrounding areas got together for an appreciation dinner. The dinner was held at the YP Hall in Harry's Harbour for MWO Eugene Sharpe, who just finished a six-month tour in Afghanistan.

Thanks to everyone who came with food and helped support this event. Special thanks to Tina Saunders for supplying the cake and friends presented a plaque. The poem below, written by Pastor Bill Harnum, sums it up:

Welcome home Soldier, so glad you are here

We have a message we want to make clear

We all have our heroes who soon fade away

But our biggest hero, is you Soldier today

Serving your country in a faraway land

Defending the weak, always lending an hand

It's not always easy to do what you do

War is a nightmare, yes that is true

But yet you are willing to go when they call

For the sake of freedom, risking your all

Tonight is a night held just to say

We won't forget you when you are away

Your family and friends are so proud of you

Of the colors you wear, of the work that you do

A true Newfoundlander true to the task

Giving your heart, what more could we ask

Yes, welcome home Soldier, enjoy a earned rest

To all who are gathered, you are one of the best.
