A short word on the long form

Dear Editor:The Harper government should be congratulated on their decision to drop the mandatory long form census questionnaire. The form is invasive and a breach of personal privacy. The information gathered in an unwarranted intrusion into our individual freedoms. The special interest groups are appalled. They want to know our personal business better than we know it ourselves.

The policy makers, medical and social, want the certainty that would relieve them from their responsibility to make rational choices.

The federal Liberal party opposes the move because, having no vision of their own, they hope the government will someday provide an issue to bring themselves down.

The man who resigned from Statistics Canada is right. Without this tool, his estimates will not be as accurate. This is a great cover for a bureaucrat who with no regard for our personal privacy is willing to do anything to achieve the goals of his own department.

I urge everyone to support the government on this issue. If we don't, it will not be long before we have to weigh our piggybanks in order to satisfy the information needs of big brother.
