Beachside, a small town located about 30 minutes outside of Springdale. With a population fewer than 200 it's a quiet, peaceful town, but on Saturday July 27th they invited everyone to help them celebrate Beachside Day!
Beachside is over 150 years old and with the help of the recreation committee and everyone who attended, it celebrated its birthday with style. There was a fish pond, kid's darts, adult darts, cake walk and a candy toss. Great fun was had by all!
They stuck with a traditional Newfoundland menu, serving Fisherman's Brewis, baked beans, moose soup, fries with dressing and gravy and the ever popular hot dogs and hamburgers. For anyone with a sweet tooth, they even had a birthday cake. It must have been a hungry crowd too because they sold every bit of food they had!
Early in the morning it was raining but they didn't let that put a damper on their fun and eventually the sun came out and it was a beautiful day. They had a huge turnout and even had visitors from as far away as St. John's!
The recreation committee uses all the funds raised for community events for young and old. They have hosted Town parties, made cookies for seniors at Christmas, had picnic tables made for the town, and the list goes on. A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped out, it was a great day.
Oh, and Happy Birthday, Beachside.
