Fire Chief Leroy Bromley with Island Variety clerk Betty Lou Croucher draw the winning ticket for the Sonya’s Window quilt.

Fire Department

The Long Island volunteer Department has been selling tickets on a beautiful, handmade quilt for the past couple of months. The quilt, pattern Sonya's Window, was made by Marion's Quilt Group of Long Island and donated to the fire department. Gloria Eveleigh of Beaumont was the lucky winner. The fundraiser netted $420 for the fire department.

Locally, events leading up to Christmas are starting to pick up. The ever-so-popular Salvation Army annual Christmas bake sale will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the SA Youth Center. Then on Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Town Tree lighting and Heritage Memory Tree lighting will take place at the Municipal Building. Everyone is welcome to come along to light the trees, sing along to some Christmas carols and enjoy the refreshments.
